Michael Martin Murphey singing at a concert in Roosevelt, Utah on November 29, 2008.  The author
first met Mike in Wrightwood at Big Pines Lodge where Mike performed during his early career.  In
1968, Mike and his first wife, Diana (original secretary of the Beatles group) moved to Wrightwood.
The author took the Murpheys to California's Calico Ghost Town in 1970.  From that visit, Michael
composed nearly two dozen songs that later became the "The Ballad of Calico', recorded by Kenny
Rogers and the First Edition, and released in 1972).
