The 'Green Flash'
from the beach areas around Seaside, Oregon from 1992 to the present.
Contrary to many beliefs, the green flash is a real phenomena, and not an illusion.
They can be seen near the end of sunset (most common) and just at sunrise, and
come in two common forms....the first at the very moment the sun dips below
the horizon (or last glimpse) referred to as an inferior mirage like one sees on
an asphalt road during a hot day, and the second where thin sections of the
sun's disk separate one after the other due to atmospheric refraction, and
is referred to as a mock mirage.
