A substantial geomagnetic storm hit the earth on the morning of June 6, 2016 while we
were at Big Bend NP, Texas. In the extremely dark skies, the airglow was visible to
the unaided eye, but the above image shows the real intensity of the storm in this 2
minute exposure looking north. Note the Andromeda galaxy and a satellite in the
upper right, along with the Milky Way. The clouds on the horizon reflect the
lights from Alpine and Marfa, Texas some 75 miles northwest of our location.
